Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby #1

The boys did well at the pinewood derby. Joshua won first and last place (he is the only Tiger). Jesse won third place in his den and most creative for all of the Bears. Neither mom or dad placed at all in the chili cook off.

PETA

I had to post this after I saw it. Any of you who follow football at all know that Michael Vick is in to dog fighting and that he is currently incarcerated for this. I personally do not condone his choice in hobbies however I believe that people are above animals on the whole food chain of life. That being said I was reading yet another article about PETA and their battle against Michael Vick's return to the NFL and I came across this little tidbit and the attached website. PETA put down more than 90% of the animals it "rescued" in 2007 were put down. I am surprised they do not publish this statistic when they are crying about the treatment of the Mexican Spotted Owl.

Jesse's Birthday!

For Jesse's birthday we had his friend Michael sleepover. After pizza we had presents and Jesse's "E.V.E." cake (E.V.E. is a character from the movie WallE), the boys played Wii and then giggled themselves to sleep. It was a fantastic 9th birthday!!!!

Scooter Chick!

Yes, Alita actually uses her scooter! She can push herself a bit with her foot but prefers we push her along. However, she won't let us leave our hand on her while she cruises. We have to push her on the back and then let her go! Her balance and strength is great! She has the most amazing athletic ability!!!

Li-Li Rocks!

This is the cutest thing Alita has ever done and we got a video clip of it! She is listening to what Jesse calls his "IProd". It's actually an MP3 player but don't tell Jesse.

Family Highlights of 2008

2008 was a good year for us. We continue to settle into Elk Grove. Here are some of the family and individual highlights for the California Drinens!

Family

• Enjoyed a fabulous vacation to Carlsbad, CA in May (beach and Legoland!)
• Bought a new house in June
• Began attending Laguna Calvary Chapel in Elk Grove
  

John

• Continues to do well as the General Manager of Huttig Building Products Sacramento branch
• Cooks lots of yummy food for the family in his new "smoker"
• Enjoyed a decent season of Notre Dame football (FINALLY!)
• Serves as Joshua's "Den Leader" for Cub Scouts

Abby

• Continues to enjoy being a full-time homemaker
• Spent a majority of the year house hunting and then setting up the new house
• Volunteered in Jesse's classroom
• Joined a women's Bible Study at Calvary Chapel

Jesse

• Had his 8th birthday
• Enjoys being a Bear Cub Scout
• Is learning to play piano
• Was "Pig #1" (the Three Little Pigs) in the school Play
• Spends a great deal of time writing/drawing his own Comic Books

Joshua

• Had his 6th birthday
• Participated in a kids Mini-Triathlon
• Member of the "Running Club" at school
• Learned to ride a bike without training wheels
• Enjoys collecting Football cards
• Enjoys being a Tiger Cub Scout

Alita

• Had her first birthday
• Learned to walk
• Learned to talk
• Loves to play catch, with cars, her dolls, sweep the floor and sing songs
• Attends a little toddler play group while mom is at Bible Study
• Enjoys reading books with dad, singing songs with mom, playing catch with Josh and coloring with Jesse
